WikiLeaks News:
A WikiLeaks cable shows that private media journalists in Ecuador served as informants for the U.S. Embassy in Quito.
WikiLeaks spokesman Kristinn Hrafnsson spoke on twopanels at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy: "Dossier Wikileaks: Italian secrets. By those on the inside" with Stefania Maurizi and Gavin MacFadyen (see below), and "Whistleblowers and anonymous leaks: can the media do without them?" Both panels contain English and Italian speakers.
Political commentator Laurie Oakes wrote an article detailing Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's hypocrisy when it comes to the presumption of innocence. While she has offered this presumption to multiple politicians, she immediately declared WikiLeaks illegal after the release of Cablegate, despite there being no evidence of illegality to date.
Clark Stoeckley, the driver of the WikiLeaks truck, was arrested and held in jail for an hour after photographing police officers. The police deleted the photo from his phone before releasing him.
Gavin MacFadyen, director of the Centre for Investigative Journalism, will lecture at a City University London event entitled "The Real WikiLeaks: Beyond Julian Assange," May 2 at 6:30PM.
