On Tuesday, after his bail hearing, Julian Assange made a comment about how Wikileaks would soon recommence the release of Wikileaks cables, after having fallen behind the media partners somewhat.
"We are stepping up our publishing for matters related to Cablegate and other materials," Assange said. "Those will shortly be occurring through our newspaper partners around the world -- big and small newspapers and some human rights organizations."
Up until approx. 60 minutes ago, the last released cables Wikileaks had uploaded to its site had been uploaded on the 5th of January.
Wikileaks Cablegate site is now showing newly released cables. While the cables are advertised as having been released on the 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th, (perhaps referring to the dates the media partners had published corresponding stories) these cables were posted in the last hour.
WL Central will provide updates as new information arrives.
2011-01-13, 19:22: Update 1: Commenter rhill notes below that I have made a mistake. While it was widely reported that the last release by Wikileaks had been on the 5th of January, this is not quite correct. The last time Wikileaks uploaded cables to its main servers, and to the mirrors, was on Saturday, January 8th. In a similar phenomenon to the above case, where cables uploaded by Wikileaks in the small hours of the morning of the 13th of January presented themselves as having been released on the 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th, the cables that were released on the 8th were released under the batch Browse by 2011/01/05, which appear to indicate that they had been released on the 5th. This is yet more reason to regard with suspicion the metadata "datestamp" on the files on the Wikileaks site. It does not appear to indicate the date of upload to the Wikileaks site, or to the mirrors.
