- WikiLeaks has been under financial blockade for 400 days. Consider making a donation so its work can continue.
- On twitter, WikiLeaks linked to the source document showing Apple and Blackberry backdoors were used by Indian Military Intelligence to intercept communications of the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC) on issues that are “of great value to Indian industry”.
The document is part of WikiLeaks’ Spy Files release.
- Twitter, Facebook, Google and five other corporations endorse online piracy bill OPEN, an alternative to SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), that would also authorize financial embargo of websites suspected of copyright infrigement by payment processors. Banking blockades identical to that unlawfully imposed on WikiLeaks could, under these bills, become the norm. [via The Hill]
- Common Dreams featured various reports on US Department of Justice efforts to obtain private twitter information of WikiLeaks’ backers Jacob Appelbaum, Rop Gonggrijp and Birgitta Jonsdottir, and to monitor social networks.
- On The Alyona Show, Aaron Swartz discusses Spanish SOPA-like law Sinde and how Spain and other countries were pressured by the United States to pass requested copyright legislation.
- Due to health problems, Prof. Marcello Ferrada-Noli unfortunately had to close Professors Blogg, a space he maintained dedicated to analysis of Sweden’s extradition case against Julian Assange.

January 11: Day of Action Against Guantanamo: A rally will take place in Washington DC, with the presence of Guantanamo historian and WikiLeaks media partner Andy Worthington who will also be attending other rallies across the country.
Similar protests are planned in Canada (Ottawa and Toronto).

April 25-29: WikiLeaks spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson and journalist Stefania Maurizi, who has worked on several WikiLeaks releases, will speak at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia (Italy).
May 23: Julian Assange will speak at the Enterprise Information Management Congress 2012 (Netherlands).
